The Marathon Murders Launch Party, February 16, 2008

The book launch party for The Marathon Murders was held in the old showroom of the restored Marathon Motor Works administration building in Nashville. Standing with me at right, holding his copy of the book, is Barry Walker, owner and renovator of the defunct company's plant and offices, now called Marathon Village. Sitting with me at left is Kathleen Mays, the neighbor who suggested I use the Marathon company in a book. Her father worked at the plant in 1914, the year my fictional victim was murdered. My wife, Sarah, stands in front of a restored 1914 Marathon touring car. Party attendants enjoyed browsing around the old cars.

At right: four generations of wife Sarah's family at granddaughter Brandy's Florida beachside wedding May 18. From Sarah at right, great-granddaughter Taylor, granddaughter Tina, the bride, and daughter Judy. Subtitle: Barefoot Babes.

Upper right shows Radine Trees Nehring (left) and Margaret Maron at a panel I moderated on writing as a second career. At lower left, cowboy-hatted Randy Rawls discusses timing and location with Radine Trees Nehring and me. Lower right shows a panel on setting with (from left) JF Margos, Keith Raffel, Margaret Maron, Pari Noskin Taichert and Libby Fischer Hellman.

MWA Skill Build - Fairhope, AL May 6, 2006

March 2006 - Opry Mills/Emerald Coast Writers Conference

I took part in a local author showcase at Barnes & Noble in Nashville's Opry Mills Mall in mid-March (left). After that I spoke at the Emerald Coast Writers Conference in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. While there I met New York Times bestseller Phillip Margolin (center), who did the cover blurb for Designed to Kill. My talk covered setting and description (right).

SleuthFest - Fort Lauderdale, FL March 3-5, 2006

We had a great time at another great SleuthFest conference put on by the Florida Chapter of Mystery Writers of America. I forgot the camera until the last event, when Sarah shot these photos. At left is Sisters in Crime President Libby Fischer Hellmann, who sat beside me at the "Technicolor Characters" panel on Saturday. With me at right are the SleuthFest co-chairs, Randy Rawls, in his ever-present cowboy hat, and Christine Kling.
