Gregory McKenzie, the main character in Secret of the Scroll, is a tough, uncompromising law enforcement professional with a quirky sense of humor. A retired special agent in charge with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, he lives in the Nashville, TN suburb of Hermitage with his wife Jill. He grew up in St. Louis, MO, where his father worked as a master brewer for Anheuser-Busch. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Greg worked as a deputy sheriff in St. Louis County for four years prior to joining the Air Force.

Greg is descended from a long line of Scottish military men. It started with the first muster of the 98th Argyllshire Highlanders in 1794 at Stirling Castle, north of Glasgow. Sixteen McKenzies answered the call. Greg’s grandfather, Staff Sgt. Alexander McKenzie, was a member of the 1st Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment, a descendant of the old 98th. He fought in the Boer War in South Africa and in Europe during World War I. A battle wound forced his retirement and led to his emigration to America when Greg’s father was fifteen.

Not long after retiring from the service, Greg moved to Nashville, his wife’s hometown, where he landed a job as an investigator for the Davidson County District Attorney. Never one to pull his punches, Greg spoke out one time too many and was forced into another retirement.
