Release Oct. 30, 2007:
A retired
Air Force OSI agent never imagined a 90-year-old car
could cause such destruction until he takes on a
case involving Nashville’s long-defunct Marathon
Motor Works in the fourth Greg McKenzie mystery,
The Marathon Murders, by Chester D. Campbell.
When Greg and his wife, Jill,
Nashville PI’s, agree to look into a potential
murder case so cold it’s frigid, they face a
present-day conspiracy filled with chicanery in
circles of power and chaos created by a frenzied
killer. It starts with a stash of yellowed records
found during restoration of the abandoned Marathon
buildings, where the once-popular touring car was
built. The documents vanish as the construction
foreman who had them is murdered.
The McKenzies’ clients, Col.
Warren Jarvis and his girlfriend, Kelli Kane,
believe the records would shed light on the fate of
her great-great-grandfather. A Marathon officer who
disappeared in 1914, he was accused of embezzlement
and later found dead. More murders occur, appearing
aimed at suppressing the secret behind the missing
records. It’s a tale of greed, misplaced pride,
family loyalty, and the unpredictable violence of an
irrational mind.
Campbell
is a former Nashville journalist, speechwriter,
advertising copywriter, public relations consultant,
and trade association executive. Earlier Greg
McKenzie mysteries include Secret of the Scroll,
Designed to Kill, and Deadly Illusions.
The first book, Secret of the Scroll, was a
finalist for ForeWord Magazine’s 2003 Mystery
Book of the Year.
The
Marathon Murders will be released February 11,
2008 in both hardback ($26.95) and trade paperback
($14.95) by Night Shadows Press, a new mystery
imprint.
